Joinery cycle week 5/6

Successfully built my trinket box.

Along the way I realized what I screwed up on when making my dovetail joints. I need to take more time on the shape and be patient. A good fit is what I want, I don’t want it to just smush together. On the glue up I used too much glue which caused some problems when removing it. Now I know that I can use much less glue than I originally thought. After I tested the fit and put the hinges on I took them Off and took the box to the finishing booth. It felt great to see my box actually finished. Although there were some issues with it, I’m happy with what I made and I know what to Improve upon next time.

After the box was finished I had my midterm. I got an A. I’ve never gotten an A on a midterm before so I’m extremely proud of myself.

Now that the box is done we’ve spent the rest of the week doing some learning tasks around the shop. We’ve been doing drill press tasks, Jointer tasks (rebbating, tapering, bevel cuts) and now table saw tasks where we are beveling two edges to 45 degrees and constructing a box out of mdf as practice for making a tool box. We’re using a dado set for a 13m rebate.

May 24th/26

It’s now been one year since I nearly fucken died. So I’m glad I didn’t and that’s super cool. My arm still causes me constant pain and daily tasks become annoying and challenging. But hey I still have an arm.
